🔍 DNS lookup
Check the DNS records of any domain in real time.
Try: microsoft.com, gmail.com, your own domain…
🔒 Queries are sent directly to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8) DNS over HTTPS. Nothing is logged by iptools.ca.
Record types explained
A / AAAA
Maps a domain name to an IP address (A = IPv4, AAAA = IPv6). This is the core of how websites are found.
MX
Mail Exchange — indicates which server handles email for the domain. Essential for receiving mail.
NS
Name Server — lists the DNS servers authoritative for the domain.
TXT
Free-form text records. Used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and domain verification.
SPF
Specifies which servers are authorized to send email for the domain. Helps prevent spoofing.
DMARC
Policy that tells receiving servers what to do with emails that fail SPF or DKIM checks.
CNAME
Alias — points one domain name to another (e.g. www → yourdomain.com).
SOA
Start of Authority — contains administrative info about the zone (serial number, refresh intervals, etc.).
What is TTL and propagation?
TTL (Time To Live) is the number of seconds DNS servers are allowed to cache a record before fetching it again. A TTL of 3600 means 1 hour. When you change DNS records, old values persist in caches until the TTL expires — this is called propagation delay. Changes can take anywhere from a few minutes (low TTL) to 48 hours (high TTL) to spread across the internet.
